What is VetsRide?

VetsRide is a partnership between Via, Department of For-Hire Vehicles and Mayor’s Office of Veteran’s Affairs to provide convenient, affordable, and efficient transportation for Veterans in DC seeking educational, health or professional services.

You get up to 4 travel vouchers a month, and you can roll over 2 unused vouchers to the next month.

Service is available within DC and between 6am-10pm.

Am I eligible?

Eligibility is outlined by the Department of For-Hire Vehicles and Mayor’s Office of Veteran Affairs. You are eligible if you are a veteran residing in Washington DC who’s annual income is less than $30,000. Documentation evidencing eligibility may be requested by the Mayor’s Office of Veteran Affairs.

How can I sign-up?

In order to register for this program, you must reach out to the Mayor’s Office of Veteran Affairs offices. Ensure you bring proof of DC residency, DD-214 or VA Card and a statement for your annual income.

Once they approve your registration, you will receive an email invitation with instructions on how to sign up in the Via app and redeem your monthly vouchers!

How can I book a ride?

You can book a ride in two ways:

2. Phone booking

How much does a ride cost?

It’s free! You get 4 monthly vouchers, with the option to roll 2 unused vouchers to the following month!

What areas does VetsRide serve?

VetsRide will serve rides across DC. Your voucher covers rides that are taking you to and from either educational, health or professional services.

What are the service hours?

VetsRide will be available between 6am-10pm Monday through Friday.

Can I bring my service animal?

Yes, but they must be marked as an additional passenger.

What is a Shared Ride?

A shared ride routes you with other riders who are travelling in your same direction.

It is corner to corner pick up service, so you might have to walk few short blocks to a convenient pick up location. There may be other pickups and dropoffs on the way to your destination.

You still have the option to add additional passengers.

What is a Private Ride?

Direct door to door pickup for you & your party (up to 3 additional passengers).

No other pickups and dropoffs on the way.

May take longer to pick you up if only shared rides are nearby.
