Via September 2024: Updated rider app, faster booking tools, and new supply planning tools
Rider App 4.17
We’ve improved the booking flow to be more intuitive for Riders scheduling rides in advance, and made various accessibility enhancements throughout the app.
Easily reimburse rides with Ride Sponsor
Ride Sponsor allows you to more easily facilitate ride reimbursements. Especially critical for paratransit services, use this feature to make rides are funded by the appropriate source.

Swiftly group recurring rides
For groups of riders that should ride together to a specific destination —like an adult daycare center—on recurring days, you no longer need to manually schedule them on the same shift! Ride Groups will allow you to add recurring rides to “Groups,” and ViaAlgo will do its best to get them on the same shift (even violating pre-set service rules to do so).

Investigate and resolve inquiries with the Activity Log
The Activity Log helps you investigate and resolve rider complaints, address driver queries and review who took certain actions in the VOC. Expanded Filter and Search capabilities help you find info faster, while new links between Activity Log items and other VOC pages (e.g., Ride Plan) help you act on that information faster. And did we mention you can now export Log data?
Book rides faster than ever
A host of improvements to the Book Ride page mean you’ll spend less time booking. Among other improvements, we’re defaulting requested pickup location to a rider’s home address, allowing you to enter ride times before addresses, and clarifying which rides are confirmed vs waitlisted.
Centralize and streamline supply planning with Shift Manager
Shift Manager is our new tool for all things supply planning. View, find, and take actions on multiple shifts across multiple days through a comprehensive table view. Not seeing the Shift Manager tool yet? Your Partner Success manager will let you know once this tool becomes available for your service!
Big Little Updates:
Sometimes subtle software changes make a big difference to your everyday life. Here are a few of our recent big little updates, inspired by your feedback and feedback from VOC users around the world.
- Added “warning” before users can activate or deactivate Stops in Map Editor: New notification alerts users that the action they’re about to take is sensitive and will impact the rider experience. This reduces the likelihood of accidental stop activations or deactivations.
- “Vendor” related actions are reflected in the Activity Log: Actions taken on “Vendors” (e.g., creating, editing, activating/deactivating, or setting a default vendor) are now reflected in the Activity Log.
- You can now “copy” values from the Unassigned Queue: You can now copy Ride Name and Request ID directly from the Unassigned Queue to your clipboard, allowing you to search for that value, share with a team member, or paste to another file easily.
- Easily jump between “pages” of shifts in the Ride Plan: We’ve updated the Ride Plan so you can now always see “pagination” buttons at the bottom of the list of shifts - this lets you easily skip to the next page without scrolling.
- Timeliness statuses for flexibly reassigned rides are now hidden: When a ride has been reassigned using “Flexible Reassign”, we no longer show whether it’s running early, on time, or late. Previously, we showed its “old” timeliness status, which was confusing - so we deleted it!
- Added specific reasons why queues are empty: We added new dialog boxes that explain why the Timeline, Unassigned Queue, Warnings Queue, or On-Time Performance Queue is empty. These explanations clarify whether emptiness is due to an error, a filter, or simply that all issues have been resolved!
- Bug fix: vehicle edits are now correctly reported in the Activity Log
Data Updates:
- New data filter lets you see the rider and service relationship: We are adding a new filter called “Service Status On” to the Rider Account Report that indicates a rider’s association with specific services. You can select your desired service (e.g., microtransit, paratransit, NEMT) and see riders who are connected to that service.
- Rides booked through Lyft/Uber integrations are now track-able: VOC Reporting now differentiates performance, status, and quality of service of the rides booked across Uber, Lyft, and Via. Note: this update is only relevant if you have an existing integration between your Via-powered service and an overflow service with Uber or Lyft.
