Reminder: NTD reporting updates are coming
We're making several updates to how the Via system calculates shift-related metrics. If your fiscal year ends on June 30th, you will see those changes reflected in July's data, and beyond. For all other NTD-reporting agencies: these updates will kick in at the start of your next fiscal year.
The 3 changes are:
#1. Actual Service Hours, Actual Service Miles: We’re no longer counting “idle time” at the depot before or after a shift as a part of Actual Service Hours and Miles.
-
Today’s definition: actual vehicle hours/miles are calculated from ‘driver start shift’ to ‘driver end shift’
-
New definition: actual vehicle hours/miles are calculated from ‘pull-out time’ to ‘pull-in time’
Note: This update only applies to customers using “Depot Locations”. For customers not using “Depot Locations”, the metric calculation will default to the start and end of the shift, because the Via system has no way to know when they depart/leave the depot. Thus, we recommend you start using “Depot Locations” if you aren't already.
#2. Vehicle Revenue Hours, Vehicle Revenue Miles: We will now count the time a driver spends waiting for their first pickup or no show in Vehicle Revenue Hours and Miles. We will also count the time a driver is driving to their last pickup, even if it’s a no-show.
-
Today’s definition: vehicle revenue hours/miles are calculated from ‘first pickup’ to ‘last drop off
-
New definition: vehicle revenue hours/miles are calculated from ‘arrival to first pickup’ to ‘last no show or drop off’.
#3. Break time calculations: If a driver isn’t assigned to do a specific “task” before or after a break, it will also be counted as break time, and will thus be removed from the 2 metrics above. For example: If a driver drives to their lunch break, that counts as break time.
-
Today’s definition: ‘break’ time reflects time from ‘beginning of break’ to ‘end of break’
-
New definition: ‘break’ time reflects time from ‘end of last task before break’ to ‘beginning of first task after break’.
