Via is delighted to announce the launch of three new Via Assist public transit services in California; Via Assist NorCal San Mateo, Via Assist NorCal Santa Clara, and Via Assist SoCal Santa Barbara.
A part of the Statewide Access Fund Administrator (SAFA) Access for All Program and in partnership with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the services are designed to improve transit access specifically for riders with mobility needs.
The Via Assist program leverages Via’s advanced mobility platform of software and services to provide a comprehensive transit solution. Riders in the relevant zones are able to use a suite of passenger booking tools to specific their accessibility requirements — including wheelchair or mobility device use, visual impairment, hearing impairment, or non-wheelchair disability. Via’s proprietary routing technology will, in real-time, match them to an appropriate vehicle and driver suited to their needs.
“We are proud to launch Via Assist, with the goal of making on-demand transportation for riders with disabilities as simple as booking an everyday rideshare,” said Alex Lavoie, Via’s Co-Chief Operating Officer. “This technology-enabled solution provides a level of accessibility that makes all the difference for everyday Californians looking to make it to their doctors, jobs, and schools.”
