New in Remix: Build stronger networks more efficiently than ever.

Written by Caitlin Hewitt Proctor | Apr 2, 2025 7:18:38 PM

Most of you know that Remix has evolved far beyond just drawing lines on a map. Today, Remix empowers you to bring your ideas and plans to life—seamlessly bridging the gap between vision and execution. This means planning trips in detail, publishing Google-ready GTFS and updates to riders, issuing real-time service alerts, scheduling vehicles and operators, and more.

Keep reading to see updates across the whole platform!

A quick note: we shared all of these features in action during our live Product Updates webinar. Missed it and want to make sure you’re in the know next time? Sign up for our newsletter

Recent releases center on three main themes:

  1. Powering multimodal systems
  2. Managing stops easily in Remix
  3. Connecting planning and scheduling

Plus, explore what's coming soon.

Let’s jump in!

Powering multi-modal systems with Rail Line Drawing.

The best networks are multi-modal. So…you can now draw and edit routes that automatically follow your rail network! What does this mean?

  1. Combine bus, rail, and tram planning in one place
  2. Create smoother lines for your tram lines
  3. Easily plan tram detours

Manage your stops entirely in Remix with Network Places.

Finding and managing stops across the full transit network can be tedious. Now in Remix, easily filter, update and analyze your stops from a new home called Network Places

  • Step 1: Analyze stop demographics
  • Step 2: Quickly improve stop fields for an accurate Google-ready GTFS

Planning and scheduling are better when they’re connected.

We’ve released plenty of scheduling features so far in 2025. Here are a few key capabilities to remember:

  1. Ideal platform hours is a new scheduling setting that limits vehicle block length. Instead of only optimizing for the fewest vehicles, you’ll now be able to set a maximum block duration! Imagine you need to deploy EVs that shouldn’t operate all day—by creating shorter blocks, you’ll be able to ensure these shorter runs.
  2. For more EV planning, you can now set vehicle types with different ranges to determine which blocks can be successfully operated by your EVs.
  3. Introducing smarter deadheads. These are auto-generated deadheads created right when a route is drawn—even if actual travel time for the route is unknown. Deadheads factor in real-time traffic speeds to estimate runtime and driving distance.
  4. You can now set different types of reliefs (Direct reliefs, Walking, Vehicle, etc.) depending on your operational constraints and geography. This specificity, plus enhanced functionality at the stop level, makes for more efficient and accurate runcuts that abide by labor rules and contribute to more flexible driver shifts.

Ridership Insights

Demand modeling can be a time consuming effort. Not to worry—soon, you’ll be able to do it all in Remix! Meet Ridership Modeling, Remix’s travel demand modeling tool. Using real, anonymized, and aggregated data from MaaS App Citymapper, Remix can offer quick, easy, and customized ridership predictions for any network change you’re considering.

  • Make data-driven decisions about service changes
  • Incorporate demand modeling into your workflow, quickly and easily
  • Easily understand how riders will experience your network

Service Design

We now have an entirely new product for designing and updating your Via demand responsive services. This update is primarily relevant to Remix partners who also partner with Via for their demand responsive system, but it’s also resulting in improvements to those who plan on-demand service in Remix.

What’s new? Those who already use Remix On-demand Planning are familiar with planning zones on a map. However, Service Design in Remix takes things a step further than evaluating new service concepts—it actually lets you launch your service changes directly from our map-based tool.

Ok, so now you’ve launched. Need to make a service change? Think: dates and service hours, service areas, travel connections, and more. Because Remix’s Service Design tool is integrated with the Via’s operations suite, you can manage drivers, vehicles and riders based on your changes right away. Oh and the best part? Riders will see instant changes in the Via Rider App!

Rostering Improvements

We’re excited to continue developing Remix Scheduling capabilities. Some new capabilities coming soon:

  • Create part time shifts
  • Optimize rosters based on driver preferences
  • New UI to make manually editing rosters easier than ever

That’s all for now! We love to hear your thoughts on features you’d like to see in the future, so let us know what we should build next.
