(SUNNYVALE, CA) — On September 1, The City of Sunnyvale, in partnership with public transit technology provider Via, officially launched Sunnyvale Beam: a citywide, on-demand microtransit service connecting people to work, school, errands, appointments, and regional transit across Sunnyvale’s approximately 19.2 square miles.
The service closes the first-mile/last-mile gap that can make public transit hard to use, while offering a convenient, shared, and affordable alternative to single-occupancy car trips.
"We are thrilled to launch the Sunnyvale Beam rideshare service that will complement our existing transit network and give people in our community more freedom and independence for their everyday trips," said city spokesperson Jennifer Garnett. Garnett said the service is envisioned to help students get to and from school and extracurricular activities, for seniors to get to and from medical appointments, and help connect workers in the city with Caltrain and Valley Transportation Authority train stops.
