Sioux Area Metro’s early 2025 upgrades: airport bus service, longer morning hours, and more
January 29, 2025 (SIOUX FALLS, S.D.) — Starting February 3, Sioux Area Metro (SAM) will debut several upgrades to further enhance public transit in Sioux Falls.
These upgrades are part of the ongoing “SAM Reimagined” plan, and were carefully developed using demand and travel pattern data, along with valuable feedback from community engagement efforts in 2024.
SAM’s early 2025 upgrades include:
- New airport service: SAM’s Black route will run to the airport between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. now that construction on Benson Road is complete.
- Earlier morning routes: The Purple, Orange, Green and Red routes will begin at 6 a.m.
- Timetable adjustments: The timing of stops will be adjusted to improve fixed route on-time performance. New timetables are available at https://siouxareametro.info/bus and in printed form at the SAM Downtown Bus Depot (120 E 11th St).
“These exciting upgrades were developed in close collaboration with the City, and are intended to get more people to try transit than ever before,” said Emily Shapiro, Sioux Falls General Manager at Via. “Via will continue its commitment to elevate the Sioux Falls public transportation experience in 2025.”
The new changes follow impressive gains in ridership and transit access across Sioux Falls in 2024, and are part of Via and the City’s long-term vision to grow ridership across the network. Via will continue to focus on meeting community needs through ongoing data analysis, community education, and feedback-gathering.
