Sioux Area Metro and Via seek community input on public transit improvements as part of “SAM Reimagined” plan
April 25, 2024 (SIOUX FALLS, S.D.) — Sioux Area Metro (SAM) and its TransitTech provider, Via, request the input of the community as they consider transformational improvements to Sioux Falls’ public transit network.
What does the “SAM Reimagined” plan entail?
- Expanded availability and frequency of public transit for more residents in Sioux Falls (for example, some bus lines running every 30 minutes all day and more weekend service).
- Improvements to bus routes to more direct trips, easier transfers, and shorter wait times.
- Expanded Via SAM On Demand service to the entire city, with a focus on areas that are not within walking distance from bus stops.
- In-person: Residents can attend the in-person “drop-in session” on Monday, May 6 at any time between 2:30 and 8:00 p.m. at Rooms A & B of the Downtown Library (200 N. Dakota Ave.) to learn about the proposed changes, ask questions, and provide live feedback Refreshments will be provided.
- Virtually: Alternatively, residents can visit city.ridewithvia.com/sam-reimagined to learn about the proposed changes and share online feedback until Wednesday, May 8 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
SAM’s new transit provider, Via, is committed to engaging with local residents before any major changes to the network are made. Since January, SAM has introduced several improvements – including the new SAM Transit journey-planning app (download in the App Store or Google Play) and expanding the Via SAM On Demand service.
