Transit challenges — and solutions — are highly specific and local. But even though individual transit agencies and municipalities will always plan and execute individual transit programs, state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and other regional entities are taking on a greater role in facilitating regional collaboration and mobility.
We’ve seen many of these entities take a powerful step forward by making Remix transit planning software available to their constituent agencies and cities. At the start of 2024, HDOT purchased Remix Planning and Remix Streets for itself and all of its islands. This strategic move allowed HDOT to collaborate with rural agencies on active transportation and grant-writing efforts. Moreover, the purchase has enabled larger agencies on the islands to reorganize their right-of-way (ROW) designs and transit priority infrastructure to accommodate new light rail services. This comprehensive approach ensures that both urban and rural areas benefit from improved transportation planning and infrastructure.
ODOT's decade-long relationship with Remix continues to yield significant benefits. Oregon’s largest and smallest agencies have used Remix’s accessibility analysis features to adapt and combine their transit networks in response to changing travel patterns. The ability to analyze data in real-time has been crucial in making informed decisions that reflect the new normal of post-pandemic travel behavior. This ongoing partnership highlights the value of long-term investment in advanced planning tools.
In 2023, DRPT and its 40 constituent agencies joined the statewide movement by acquiring a Remix Planning and On-demand Planning license. This license allows Virginian planners to visualize transportation access gaps and evaluate where service optimizations can be made, ultimately serving riders in the most efficient and equitable way possible. The ability to seamlessly plan and operate both fixed-route and on-demand services is a game-changer for agencies of all sizes.
BC Transit partnered with Remix to enhance transportation services across its 57 transit systems in 130 communities. By leveraging Remix’s powerful GTFS algorithms, BC Transit can generate precise, data-informed corridor runtimes and predict new route runtimes for British Columbia's transit systems. Then, Remix's integrated fixed-route and on-demand planning platforms help BC Transit understand where opportunities can be found across the province, and where on-demand services may be suitable.
