FTA announces $180M in funding for ‘Low-No’ emissions transit programs

Written by Via Transportation | Mar 12, 2021 5:00:00 AM

Part of Via’s mission is to reduce the carbon impact of the transportation sector by offering efficient, shared rides, decreasing our reliance on single-occupancy vehicles. But while sharing is one way to reduce emissions, electrification presents another major opportunity. That’s why we’re excited to share news of the Low or No Emission grant program from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

On February 12, the FTA announced $180 million in funding for the purchase or lease of low or no emission transit vehicles as well as related equipment (like charging stations) and workforce development training. Eligible applicants can be transit agencies, state and local governments, and Indian Tribes.

At Via, we’ve had a lot of experience incorporating electric vehicles into public transport fleets across the US, from Sacramento and Jersey City. Our technology helps drivers determine when and where to recharge their vehicles and proactively manages vehicle supply to ensure riders aren’t abandoned when EVs are offline.

If you’re interested in running a microtransit service with electric vehicles, please reach out to partnerships@ridewithvia.com. We can help you work through the Low or No Emission grant process and help you plan a microtransit service using these vehicles.

Applications are due on April 12, so act fast! See more alerts here and click the button below to receive our newsletter, with new funding alerts included every month.
