On July 15, the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) announced $200,000 in transit planning grants for agencies and nonprofits that serve older adults and people with disabilities. NADTC is asking applicants to develop a planning proposal for taking an innovative approach to transit that will address one of two areas of focus:
- Transportation equity and inclusion.
- COVID-19 recovery plans to impact social isolation.
This is a great opportunity for transit agencies and nonprofits that receive 5310 funding to plan for new technologies or innovative ways of serving older adults and people with disabilities. NADTC specifically calls out ridesharing and same-day service as two innovative approaches to transportation they’re hoping to see in grant applications. This makes planning for on-demand paratransit a great fit for the NADTC grant program.
There is no match for this grant program. However, budget requests are capped at $20,000. NADTC expects to award $20,000 grants to 10 communities. They also offer the opportunity to receive another $50,000 in grants to launch a program as a result of the planning process, so long as awardees successfully follow grant guidelines.
