Introducing Via’s Caregiver App: keep caregivers connected, without the calls

Via's Caregiver App keeps caregivers connected with real-time ride updates and full visibility, reducing calls and improving service for the whole community.

Paratransit trips wouldn’t be possible without caregivers.

Whether they’re a parent, case manager, or front desk staffer at a day center, these trusted partners help riders get where they need to go safely.

But historically, paratransit software hasn’t made it easy for them to stay informed. Caregivers have to call agencies to get updates, book rides, and more. This takes time away that caregivers and agency staff alike could otherwise be spending on direct rider support.

That’s why we built something just for them.

Via’s new Caregiver App gives caregivers real-time ride visibility, proactive notifications, and secure access to ride details—keeping them connected without the calls.

What does it mean for your paratransit service?

“Paratransit is such a community sport. It really takes a whole team. And caregivers are an MVP on that team.” explains Rachel Birnbaum former caregiver and VP of Expansion at Via.

Offering a Caregiver App as part of your paratransit service is a powerful way to support the community supporting your riders. There are over 53 million caregivers in the United States alone. Many spend up to two hours a day on transportation logistics—time that could be spent on direct care.

With the app, caregivers are always in the loop—no more time-consuming phone calls, booking rides, or changing schedules. This ultimately means significantly lower call volume for your agency. Moreover, busy caregivers gain peace of mind, and riders benefit from more reliable, enjoyable service.

“Those “where’s my ride?” calls? Where’s Jimmy’s ride? Has Becky been picked up from her dentist appointment?—can fade away. That frees up time for operators, dispatchers, and reservationists to focus on everything else they need to handle. It helps build trust in the community.”

Here’s what caregivers can do with the app:

1. Track rides in real time

Caregivers can follow live ride progress for one or multiple riders—so they always know when to expect a driver and when someone has arrived safely.

2. Get helpful, proactive notifications

Busy caregivers don’t need to keep checking the app. They’ll automatically get alerts about driver ETAs, delays, cancellations, and more.

3. Access ride info from anywhere

Whether they’re at a desk, on the go, or moving between rooms, caregivers can use the app on desktop or mobile to stay informed.

4. Trust that information is secure

Agency staff manage caregiver permissions—deciding who is able to access which rider’s information and ensuring everyone has access to the information they need, and nothing they don’t.

Finally, you can empower your caregiver community.

When caregivers can see what’s happening in real time, they don’t have to call dispatch to ask “where’s my rider?”. That means less time on the phone, fewer calls for agency staff, and more confidence and autonomy for caregivers and riders alike.
