Far from the city centre, Calgary communities are getting the transit access they need to support continued growth — and build good transit habits for the future. A switch to Via for both technology and operations has made it possible for Calgary Transit to keep up with growing demand.
On-demand microtransit in Calgary proved extremely popular from the start — so much that pilot services struggled to keep up with demand. After switching to Via, an integrated approach to technology and operations allowed for vehicle supply and driver shifts to expand flexibly to accommodate peak demand periods.
Now, riders across Calgary have access to reliable on-demand service in areas beyond the reach of the fixed-route bus network. Ridership has continued to grow as more residents make Calgary Transit On Demand a part of their daily routine.
After two successful pilots of On Demand, we are pleased to extend this service in new areas. We know how important transit is for Calgarians, and that providing service early in growing communities is a great way to build long-term ridership.
