Passaic County Board of County Commissioners is proud to announce its new microtransit program, Passaic County MOVE, is officially live starting Tuesday, May 20. The innovative service will offer residents of Passaic and Clifton a flexible, convenient transportation option for just $1.80. All rides will be free through June 20 to encourage community members to try it out.
The launch of Passaic County MOVE marks a major step forward in the County’s ongoing efforts to deliver equitable, efficient public services tailored to the needs of all residents — including commuters, seniors, people with disabilities, and those living in areas underserved by traditional public transit. This on-demand, app-based service is run in partnership with TransitTech provider Via, which operates several similar programs across New Jersey.
“Passaic County is committed to improving transportation options that make a real difference in the lives of our residents," said Passaic County Commissioner John Bartlett. "This microtransit program will provide more flexible options for residents in both urban and suburban areas, while continuing our work to ensure access to inclusive and reliable mobility for all. The launch of Passaic County MOVE is a transformative step toward a more connected, sustainable future.”
Passaic County MOVE is an app-based program that allows anyone to book an on-demand shared ride to travel within the designated service zone. The program is designed to complement existing public transit in Passaic County through providing an easy, affordable connection to and from NJT transit stations within the service area.
“Passaic County MOVE is a critical service that will benefit not only our residents but also our local businesses and economy," said Mayor Lora. "By providing an efficient and affordable transportation option, we are helping to ensure that everyone, regardless of where they live or their mobility needs, has access to the opportunities our community has to offer. This program is a step in the right direction for building a more connected, inclusive Passaic County.”
How to ride:
Download the Passaic County MOVE app (available in the Google Play and App Store) and set up an account.
Upon booking a ride, Via’s technology matches them with other riders headed in the same direction into one vehicle – creating quick and efficient shared trips.
Riders are directed to “virtual bus stops” (typically a short walk away from their pick-up and drop-off location), which minimizes detours and keeps trips running smoothly for everyone.
Riders with mobility issues can request door-to-door services and wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
The program will operate Monday to Friday 6a.m. to 8p.m.
"The introduction of Passaic County MOVE is a game changer for our residents in Clifton and beyond," said Mayor Grabowski. "This program aligns with our vision for a more accessible and modern transportation network, offering both convenience and affordability. We are proud to partner in this initiative that will help connect our communities, enhance mobility, and support economic growth across the region."
