We attach great importance to the protection of your personal data and would like to offer you complete transparency regarding the possible processing of your data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act of 2018, in particular with regard to the information recorded by our vehicles.

Controller: Kempsford Transport UK Ltd., 138 Fetter Lane, London EC4A 1BT, UK

Data protection officer: eu-dpo@ridewithvia.com

Date: 27.11.2025

Data collection by dashboard cameras (‘dashcams’)

We use dashcams in our vehicles that record in two directions:

  • External recordings: These cameras record the area in front of the vehicle and are primarily used to help our driving personnel to prevent accidents, protect them in such situations and help accident investigations.
  • Interior recordings: These cameras record the interior of the vehicle. This includes audio recordings. Interior recordings are strictly made for the purposes of public safety, crime prevention, detection and prosecution of offenders, and to ensure compliance with internal safety standards and procedures and in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act of 2018. The cameras are expressly not used for the routine monitoring of drivers or the passenger compartment.

No systematic evaluation

At no time are recordings of our passengers or driving personnel systematically evaluated. However, it is possible that passengers or passers-by may be visible in the recordings in certain situations. During both interior and exterior recording it is not possible to identify these individuals, as people and number plates are automatically blurred to make them unrecognisable.

Data storage and security

Data is always stored in accordance with legal requirements and the highest security standards.
Locally stored video data is automatically overwritten in a ring buffer (max. approx. 120 hours). This is in line with the ‘privacy by design’ approach.
Recordings are uploaded and stored, when the integrated software detects a dangerous situation or when the driving personnel manually initiates storage. Such recordings are stored in encrypted form on servers within the EU (AWS Ireland) and automatically deleted after a maximum of 6 months. Stored data is encrypted, and only selected, authorised employees   have access to this data.

Recipients and transfers

Only authorised employees have access. If necessary, data may be passed on to authorities, insurance companies or commissioned IT service providers with server locations in the EU.

Legal basis

The recordings are processed on the basis of compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject Article 6(1)(c) UK GDPR and or legitimate interest in accordance with Art. 6 (1) lit. f UK GDPR, in particular for the investigation of accidents, to increase road safety and to protect passengers and driving personnel, as well as public safety, crime prevention, detection and prosecution of offenders.

Your rights

You have the right to information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, objection and data portability in accordance with Art. 15–21 UK GDPR, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
