Overview
Before Remix, Stadtwerke Trier (SWT), Trier’s transport authority, used a complex manual method to update service changes in Google Maps — a time consuming process that often left customers without accurate detour information. Seeking an integrated, data-driven solution to upgrade their route planning, SWT partnered with Remix by Via in January 2022 and joined Remix’s GTFS Editor beta group in June 2022.
Solution
Remix’s GTFS Editor unlocked a new level of digitized planning for SWT, allowing them to visualize and publish short and medium term service detours in record time. Unlike their previous process, the software completely automated their ability to view geographic data and input existing routes to produce new bus routes and maps with route colors. Remix’s GTFS Editor gave SWT four enhanced transit planning capabilities:
1. Reduce detour planning and publishing time — in some cases from >8 hours with their legacy method to less than one hour to upload and modify routes and timetables.
2. Produce visually compelling, high resolution maps of their bus system changes that they can easily upload to their website.
3. Provide riders access to accurate and timely service updates to aid in daily commute planning.
4. View service change performance analytics in one place.
SWT plans to continue using the Remix GTFS Editor to draft transit network ideas and improve detour planning across their entire bus system.
In some cases we were able to go from drawing a route to exporting it to our GTFS feed within an hour. Before Remix, the same process would have taken about a day, using a mix of GIS, scheduling tools and manual work.”
